Enterprise content ecosystem

Indeed

Simplifying technical products.
Driving self-serve installation.

Overview

Indeed wanted to unlock new revenue streams by expanding engagement with enterprise employers.

A major part of their strategy involved self-serve API integrations that synced workflow data between Indeed and other HR systems—especially Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).

I was responsible for designing simple, understandable content that scaled globally.

What I did

I developed content systems, designed user-facing content, and influenced product strategy for this new ecosystem of HR tech interoperability products. My role was a blend of content strategy, content design, UX writing, content infrastructure planning, content management, and systems thinking.

  • Created a simplified, user-informed, scalable content strategy for our product ecosystem (300+ products)
  • Translated technical documentation into self-serve, step-by-step installation experiences for nontechnical users
  • Helped create content models for our content management system
  • Advocated for greater content maturity, content infrastructure, and appropriate governance
  • Designed content across multiple touchpoints: emails, banners, notifications, error messages, FAQs, help content, and legal disclaimers
  • Ensured a11y-compliant content experiences
  • Contributed to product naming, product messaging, and in-product marketing assets
  • Helped translate our content for non-US audiences
  • Conducted foundational user research to understand users’ perceptions of certain technical terms
  • Led the effort to create specialized content guidelines (to supplement our primary style guide)
  • Contributed to Indeed’s content guidelines for LLM usage
  • Mentored other content designers and facilitated a content critique group
  • Helped other content designers upskill in Figma
  • Was in the process of developing a taxonomic system to manage error messages across our product ecosystem when Indeed reduced their workforce (May 2024)

Impacts

  • Drove new engagement (8.1M jobs, 224M applications), saving up to 75M application hours for job seekers
  • Reduced speed of user comprehension from 20 minutes to 30 seconds with simplified product overview content
  • Helped us scale faster and reduce developer hours through use of a CMS
  • Contributed to better algorithmic candidate matching with a research-informed framework of normalized candidate statuses rolled out to 200 partner systems
